Families at William Ford,
At 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1st staff noticed a gas smell at William Ford. After consulting with the fire department, a decision was made to evacuate the building until fire officials could investigate the smell, if there was indeed a leak on our campus, and consult with William Ford as to how to proceed. Students, staff and visitors evacuated the building to the playground while the Dearborn Fire and Police Department investigated. It was determined that there was a leak on the south side of Ford Rd. and with the wind our school did have a heavy gas smell. However, at no time were the students and staff in any immediate danger. As of 4:00 the area just south of Ford Rd. was still blocked off by the Deaborn Fire and Police Department while crews from MichCon attended to the gas leak.
I certainly appreciate your patience and understanding during our early dismissal today (15 minutes). As always, your child’s safety while at school, during any evacuations, and at arrival and dismissal is of the utmost of importance. Our students learned today the importance of our practice evacuations and emergency drills. Thank you for reinforcing the importance with them as well.
Kind regards,
David Higgins, Principal of William Ford Elementary
