Fifth Grade Field Trip to the Henry Ford Village

The fifth grade field trip to the Henry Ford Village is still on for Tuesday!

Fifth graders, along with teachers and Mr. Higgins, will be walking (if the path is free of snow) to the Henry Ford Village residency at the corner of Ford and Greenfield.  Students will be singing holiday songs with the residents and then joining them for cookies and juice.

Dress for the Winter Wonderland walk – warm coat, boots, gloves & hat!

Thank You William Ford!!

Wow!  Thank you William Ford for your unbelievable generosity!  As a school we collected 3,019 canned goods and non-perishable food items.  Zaman International loaded our items and took them back to their warehouse to prepare them for distribution to families in need.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.

Gas Leak Near William Ford

Families at William Ford,

At 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1st staff noticed a gas smell at William Ford.  After consulting with the fire department, a decision was made to evacuate the building until fire officials could investigate the smell, if there was indeed a leak on our campus, and consult with William Ford as to how to proceed.  Students, staff and visitors evacuated the building to the playground while the Dearborn Fire and Police Department investigated.  It was determined that there was a leak on the south side of Ford Rd. and with the wind our school did have a heavy gas smell.  However, at no time were the students and staff in any immediate danger.  As of 4:00 the area just south of Ford Rd. was still blocked off by the Deaborn Fire and Police Department while crews from MichCon attended to the gas leak.

I certainly appreciate your patience and understanding during our early dismissal today (15 minutes).  As always, your child’s safety while at school, during any evacuations, and at arrival and dismissal is of the utmost of importance.  Our students learned today the importance of our practice evacuations and emergency drills.  Thank you for reinforcing the importance with them as well.

Kind regards,

David Higgins, Principal of William Ford Elementary
