William Ford Elementary

Recent Events in the Metro Area

To our William Ford Community,
As you are aware there are several stories being shared around the entire metro area about clowns, most on social media and most untrue.  The stories vary from just people dressed up like a creepy clown walking around a neighborhood to actual criminals taking part in robberies wearing a clown mask.  Of course, social media has fueled the whole clown issue with many fake clown stories.

At this time there have been no credible threats toward our schools nor have there been any incidents at any Dearborn school involving the presence of clowns on school property interacting with students.

We will continue to practice our normal procedures to ensure the safety of students while at school. As always, our staff will monitor school grounds and report any suspicious person who may appear to be wondering around our schools uninvited.  This will be addressed like any “Stranger Danger” type of situation and reported to the proper authorities.

We have an outstanding relationship with the Dearborn Police and are fortunate to have seven exceptional School Resource Officers assigned to our District. In addition, patrol officers routinely visit William Ford and all of our schools and have a good relationship with the administration at the school.

The police are very much on top of this whole clown issue and have shared with us that a majority of the reports about clowns have been false and fabricated.  Dearborn Police will be taking a very aggressive position with anyone found to be on school grounds wearing a clown masks or clown make-up.  These subjects will most likely be arrested for Disorderly Conduct on school property.

The safety of students is always a top priority for the staff at William Ford. By continuing to work together, communicate, and share factual information we will maintain the safe learning environment in our building.

Regards,
David Higgins
